Building a Naira Emergency Fund From Zero

The single most important financial buffer — how big, where to keep it, and how fast to build it.

Building a Naira Emergency Fund From Zero

An emergency fund stops a flat tyre from becoming a financial crisis.

How big?

3 months of essential expenses if your income is stable, 6 if it is variable (freelance, business).

Where to keep it

Money market fund or a dedicated savings account. Liquid (you can withdraw in <24h) and earning at least 10%.

How to build it fast

1. Start with a ₦100,000 mini-fund. 2. Sell stuff you do not use. 3. Pause non-essential subscriptions for 3 months. 4. Add every windfall. 5. Round-up savings on the side.

When to use it

True emergencies only: medical, job loss, urgent travel for family. Not sales. Not weddings.
